Beruas MP Ngeh Koo Ham said debate on the report would be subjudice.
“There is a pending court case. It will be prejudicial for the speaker to present the redelineation (recommendations),” he said at a press conference today at Parliament’s media centre.
Last Friday, the state government sought leave at the Federal Court to challenge the EC’s exercise after its application was dismissed by the Court of Appeal.
The EC submitted its report to Prime Minister Najib Razak on March 9 without completing hearings on objections to the changes in local inquiries.
It has been speculated the report might be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat for debate this week or the next.
The Selangor government had also previously file a court case against the redelineation exercise, but was unsuccessful in stopping it.
Opposition veteran Lim Kit Siang said the EC had rushed to complete the report to present it to the prime minister.
“Parliament should not be a rubber stamp (to pass the report). Parliament should take time to study it and take a position,” he told a press conference.
He called for a parliamentary select committee to be formed to study the report.
The select committee must be given at least four weeks to look into the report, he added.
