Selangor Amanah chairman Izham Hashim said his party was confident of taking the nine seats.
“The nine constituencies are safe, so we are now working on adding the three others too,” he said, referring to Seri Serdang, Lembah Jaya and Sungai Burong.
In the last general election held in May 2013, Seri Serdang and Lembah Jaya were won by PAS with majorities of 16,251 votes and 8,713 votes respectively, while Sungai Burong was taken by Umno with a margin of 3,013 votes.
The nine seats allocated to Amanah include two now held by its assemblymen who contested as PAS candidates before quitting the Islamist party in 2015.
They are Hulu Kelang and Morib, which were won with margins of 2,881 votes and 766 votes, respectively. Of the remaining seven seats, six are still under PAS and one seat is under Barisan Nasional (BN).
Izham said he expected negotiations over PH’s seat distribution for the state to be finalised by next week.
The PH components’ negotiations for Selangor were initially expected to wrap up by the end of January but the talks were extended due to Amanah, PKR, DAP and PPBM failing to reach an agreement.
There are now six constituencies which are believed to be still under negotiation.
According to Izham, PPBM is also seeking two or three more seats in addition to the seven allocated to the newest member of the opposition coalition.
On March 2, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu said the coalition had almost finalised its negotiations over parliamentary seats, with only those in Sabah pending. Among the state seats, only those in Selangor needed to be finalised.
Selangor has a total of 56 state constituencies. Of these, PKR currently holds 13 seats, DAP 14 and Amanah two. On the state opposition, Barisan Nasional has 12 seats, PAS has 13 and two more are held by independents, including former Selangor menteri besar Khalid Ibrahim.
