Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos handed the writ of summons to an officer from the Chief Minister’s Office.
“These papers contain our claims for slander against Azeez, which Lim made on two occasions on Feb 28,” he told reporters outside the state government offices in Komtar.
Jahaberdeen said Lim had made the statements at a press conference in Komtar and at a Chinese New Year open house at the Penang Development Corporation office in Bayan Baru.
He said Azeez was demanding an apology for the statements and would seek an injunction to prevent the chief minister from repeating such slanderous statements.
Jahaberdeen said the writ of summons was filed last Friday, and the registrar had set April 9 for case management.
Azeez had asked Lim to apologise for the remarks but the chief minister refused.
Lim said he had only asked the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission why it did not probe Azeez, who was reported by a news portal as allegedly involved in a bribe-for-immunity bid linked to the proposed undersea tunnel project.
