PETALING JAYA:
Jailed opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim was admitted to the coronary care unit (CCU) at Kuala Lumpur Hospital late last night, after reacting negatively to steroid treatment for his right shoulder.

PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar was given a steroid injection on Saturday, following prolonged shoulder pain after a surgery months earlier.

“His heart rate is lower and is worrying,” said Fahmi, adding however that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) de facto leader’s condition is now stable.

Last November, Anwar underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder for an injury originally sustained during an accident in 2014 in Desa Sri Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.

Although he underwent physiotherapy, the pain became worse over time.

His condition deteriorated following an accident on Sept 22 last year when an escort vehicle rammed into the back of the prison transport ferrying him from Kuala Lumpur Hospital back to prison.
