The police have found two homemade shotguns, locally known as “bakakuk”, believed to have been hidden in some bushes at an oil palm plantation on Jalan Ulu Tingkayu here.

Kunak district police chief Supt Baharin Md Tahir said a team had discovered the firearms during an operation dubbed “Sea Hunter” at about 4.15am yesterday.

“The dismantled bakakuks were found under some piles of coconut leaves,” he told a press conference here today.

According to Baharin, the owners of the firearms were believed to have abandoned them there following frequent police operations in the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 8(a) of the Firearms Act 1960.
