KUALA TERENGGANU:
The Terengganu Health Department yesterday raided an establishment in Kampung Losong here, where three women in their 20s were carrying out illegal fitting services for dental braces.

State Health Department director Dr Mohammad Omar said only two of the women were on the premises in the 3.30pm raid, while the third managed to escape.

During the raid, there were 17 customers, aged between 16 and 20, waiting in line for service and follow-up treatment, he told reporters.

Mohammad said prior to this, the department had carried out initial investigations into the illegal practice, monitoring the movements of the three women who hail from Kuala Lumpur.

“We previously raided their operation centre in Kemaman district, but they managed to escape.

“We have been following their activities and this time around, we managed to arrest two of them. They were found to have been offering a mobile brace fitting service from one location to another, and promoting it through social media such as Facebook as well as the WhatsApp and WeChat applications.

“To avoid being detected by authorities, they always changed their location and appointment dates.”

Mohammad said providing unregistered private dental services was an offence under Section 27 of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998 (Act 586). Those accused are liable to a fine not exceeding RM300,000, imprisonment for a term not exceeding six years, or both if convicted.
