Idris, who is also Higher Education Minister and Besut MP, said the allegation by PAS at a ceramah (political talk) in Alor Lintang, Besut, three days ago that the state government did not make any effort to save the project was slander and hoped that the people would not believe it.
“Enough. If you don’t know the facts, don’t just make comments about Taman Ilmu which was developed for the future education of the people of Terengganu.
“Does PAS know that we are working to ensure the function of Taman Ilmu is in line with the state government’s efforts to make Terengganu an education centre?” he said when officiating the 100th Anniversary celebration of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kampung Raja, Besut yesterday.
Through the efforts of the state government, Idris said, Taman Ilmu was used as a hostel for students of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin at the Tembila campus, over the past year.
He also said the National Arts, Culture and Heritage Academy, which had been upgraded to Universiti P Ramlee, would also begin operations in Taman Ilmu this March.
