PPBM to take action against 400 who complained to RoS

Legal action will also be taken against non-members who lodged reports on party's AGM, says PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin.

PETALING JAYA:
PPBM will refer party members who have lodged complaints over the party’s annual general meeting (AGM) to the disciplinary board, said its president, Muhyiddin Yassin.

Muhyiddin was responding to reports that the Registrar of Societies (RoS) had received 400 complaints against the party, questioning the legitimacy of the AGM held last December.

“We actually don’t know who made these 400 complaints. By right, the RoS should call us in to discuss whatever problems there are about the party.

“Until now, they have been keeping quiet and have not responded to our request for an appointment to discuss previous ‘so called reports’ (against PPBM).

“What is the motive behind this? Is RoS collecting more reports in order for it to build a case against PPBM and, in the end, deregister the party?” he asked at a press conference held at the PPBM headquarters in Johor Bahru.

According to Muhyiddin, the AGM was held based on RoS’ orders and was held according to the party’s constitution.

“For a party that is less than a year old, there is no need for a general assembly.

“This is very technical, but because questions are being asked, I will explain. In fact, we have explained this before, but it was probably not reported and these people asking questions seem uninterested to read up on it.

“All I ask is for them to refer to the party’s constitution. Everything was done according to the constitution,” he said.

Muhyiddin also questioned the RoS over its lack of competence in assisting the party solve party matters.

“Our party members must understand that the RoS has not approved the applications submitted for the setting up of PPBM division branches.

“Without branch divisions, how are the divisions supposed to hold their annual meetings?

“I hold the RoS responsible for this. It seems as though they are delaying on purpose. It seems as though Umno is worried about the existence of PPBM,” he said.

Muhyiddin pointed out that as a former minister, he knew very well how the RoS operated and that they are very cooperative.

“They have always been very helpful. So, why are they treating us like this now?

“I have been in Umno long enough and have gone through all these processes of handling an annual general meeting.

“We know how to do things, following proper regulations.”

He added that once identified, members of the party involved in lodging the reports will be referred to the party’s disciplinary board while non-members will be referred to the party’s legal team to be dealt with.

“These members are not fit to be in PPBM. They should have come to us instead of speaking to the media or going to RoS without our knowledge.”

PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad had on Tuesday alleged an attempt to sabotage the party, following the 400 reports to RoS.

“The reports apparently have similar contents. That makes them dubious,” said Mahathir.

“We don’t know who is doing this, but we suspect it is the government’s doing.”

Mahathir also questioned the media statements by RoS on members’ unhappiness over PPBM’s recent AGM.
