KOTA KINABALU:
People should vote for candidates who can serve them well instead of those who only show up when the elections are near, says Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah.

Its president, Lajim Ukin, said Sabahans should avoid electing politicians who have a tendency of only appearing to distribute assistance when the general election is around the corner.

“We are all aware that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government will only meet the people to give contributions to the needy when the polls edge closer,” he claimed.

“The people should also pick leaders who genuinely work for them and not just talk,” he said in his speech when launching the party’s Beaufort division election machinery.

He said elected representatives should also be accessible to the people besides not being selective when it comes to distribution of assistance.

“As elected representatives 30 years ago, we did not have smart phones equipped with apps like WhatsApp. We only had house phones at the time.

“But I was always accessible to people and I visited people to see their problems other than attending public gatherings,” said the Klias assemblyman.

Lajim said he was not interested in attacking other opposition parties, especially those in Sabah, adding they had the same mission of changing the political landscape in the state.

“But they like to make accusations against us including against our friends in Gabungan Sabah but I am confident Gabungan is strong enough to contest in the 14th general election,” he said.

Parti Cinta Sabah president Wilfred Bumburing had previously labelled Gabungan as a BN-friendly pact.

Parti Warisan Sabah had also distanced itself from Gabungan, with its president Shafie Apdal saying he would not work with them as he doubted the leaders in the coalition.
