Addnan, 59, started as a municipal engineer in 1984 before being made deputy director of the engineering department in 2011. In 2012, he was made director of the department.
State local government committee chairman Chow Kon Yeow said the decision to appoint Yew and Addnan to their new roles was made by the state executive council today.
“Both officers have a lot of experience and have done well. Since they have a lot of experience in the field, the executive council has full confidence in them to discharge their duties,” Chow told reporters today.
Yew and Addnan will receive their official appointments at the City Hall this Friday.
Yew said he was thankful and touched by the trust shown by the state government and promised to continue the state’s sustainable development goals for Penang Island as a city.
“I hope our parting mayor Maimunah will keep in touch with us always. We are saddened to see her leave. But we understand she has to go. We pray for her success in Nairobi,” he said.
