PETALING JAYA:
An entertainment event featuring singers, models and actors from Bangladesh has come under scrutiny with the arrest of a Bangladeshi filmmaker over alleged human trafficking activities.

The event, Cinematic Bangladeshi Nights, was held on Saturday night at the Wisma MCA in Kuala Lumpur.

Bangladeshi news portal, bdnews24, reported yesterday that filmmaker and screenwriter Anonno Mamun was arrested in KL on Sunday, on charges of human trafficking in the guise of organising a cultural show.

The arrest was also confirmed by one of the sponsors of the event.

According to bdnews24, some of the entertainers involved in the show were also said to have been questioned by the police after the show. This led to police arresting Anonno from his hotel room on Sunday night.

Several members of the Bangladeshi community in KL told the news portal about the allegations that 30-40 people who were not involved with the event may have been brought into the country as being part of the show.

Among the performers at the show were singers Asif Akbar, Ankhi Alamgir and HM Rana, rock band Chirkutt, actors Anika Kabir Shokh, Mamnun Hasan Emon, Sakhawat Hossain Nirob and Misty Zannat, and a few models.
