This is because the case is “straightforward”, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said today.
He said the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) needed to scrutinise the chronology of how the ownership got transferred to Synergy Promenade Sdn Bhd.
“Among the aspects that need to be looked at are the decisions of the Felda board of directors, the agreement between Felda and the company, the transaction of the transfer to the company, and the compliance of the parties to the obligations under the agreement,” he said in a statement today.
Persatuan Anak Peneroka Felda Kebangsaan (Anak) had called for the RCI to investigate allegations of wrongdoings at Felda.
On Friday, police announced that a special team had been formed on Dec 13 to investigate the case, saying it would call on former Felda chairman Isa Samad to assist in investigations.
The investigations are being conducted under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, and Section 471 for using as genuine a forged document.
On Dec 22, Prime Minister Najib Razak said he wanted the authorities to conduct a thorough probe on the issue surrounding the ownership of four parcels of land on Jalan Semarak.
Current Felda chairman Shahrir Abdul Samad had the day before said Felda was ready to take all forms of action to regain its right to the land, estimated to be worth RM270 million, following a report in Berita Harian that raised questions about the transfer.
A police report was lodged on Dec 12 and a caveat was placed on the parcels of land, besides the cancellation of the power of attorney issued and civil action against the parties involved.
Takiyuddin said PAS also hoped that a detailed investigation would be able to expose other “scandals” involving Felda and its subsidiaries.
He said Shahrir’s readiness to allow the relevant authorities to investigate Felda would help the probe to take place transparently.
“It would also enable the investigation to be conducted swiftly in light of the public interest surrounding the matter and because it involves stakeholders, especially Felda settlers and their successors.”
He added that Felda needed to be “cleansed” from certain private interests or groups.
