Abu Sayyaf man wanted for Malaysian cop’s murder killed

Badong Muktadil, who was also wanted by Esscom for kidnappings, was killed in Sulu, southern Philippines.

An Abu Sayyaf leader wanted by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) for the murder of a Malaysian policeman was reported to have been killed by troops in Sulu, southern Philippines.

Sulu Joint Task Group commander Brig Gen Cirilito Sobejana was reported as saying that Badong Muktadil had been killed in Barangay Silangkan, in Parang, Sulu, around midnight on Dec 9 during a patrol by marines in the area.

The Abu Sayyaf leader’s body was transferred to the CGTB Station Hospital in Barangay Busbus in Jolo, Sulu, reported Philippine media.

“Badong’s death is another downfall for the Abu Sayyaf’s kidnapping and terrorist activities and has given some sort of relief to the residents in Sulu,” said Sobejana.

A source in Esscom told FMT that Badong was a notorious criminal and was also responsible for a spate of kidnappings in the waters off the east coast of Sabah.

Badong was apparently still alive after he was reported to have been killed a few months ago.

The bandit, in his 40s, was one of three brothers from the Muktadil family, said to be a kidnap-for-ransom family based in Tawi Tawi, southern Philippines.

Police in 2014 said the brothers were suspects in the shooting death of a marine policeman and kidnapping of another in July that year.

They were also wanted in connection with four kidnapping incidents, the report in 2014 said.
