KUALA LUMPUR: Two life-sized effigies of lawyer Zaid Ibrahim were burnt in front of the entrance of Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) by a group led by Sungai Besar Umno division chief Jamal Yunos.

Jamal held a press conference outside the Umno headquarters here to hit out at the former de facto law minister and current DAP member over the latter’s “advice” to the Selangor sultan.

Zaid had taken to Twitter to “advise” the sultan, with his tweet reading: “The Selangor sultan should be careful with his words. No one is immune when the country burns.”

Zaid was apparently referring to an interview the sultan gave The Star in which the ruler claimed PPBM chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s political agenda was motivated by “deep hatred” and that “his anger will burn the whole country”.

Jamal said Zaid’s actions were unacceptable.

“We have to teach Zaid a lesson for his rude and extreme action.

“We cannot accept what he has done and we have had enough,” Jamal said at the press conference, held on the sidelines of the Umno general assembly.

“If he wants to insult me, he can do so 24 hours a day, but to insult the Selangor sultan cannot be accepted.

“Do not ever insult or implicate the sultan.”
