This time, the women, aged between 19 and 31, were from Thailand.
They were picked up during an operation at a hotel here.
Police also detained two local men, in their 20s, believed to be caretakers, and five customers, aged between 22 and 42.
Sabah CID director Salehhudin Abd Rahman said initial investigations showed clients were solicited using the WeChat app.
“We seized RM3,962 in cash, 11 mobile phones and 72 condoms during the operation,” said Salehhudin.
“We are investigating who the mastermind is.”
Vice raids in Sabah are gaining more attention from the public ever since the Sabah Immigration Department discovered a prostitution ring operating at a hotel in Kota Kinabalu on Nov 24 and seized RM14.95 million in cash.
The huge amount seized surprised police and other enforcement authorities. Some of the cash seized was mouldy, in packages marked with the year 2008.
Immigration director-general Mustafar Ali had said four of the syndicate’s masterminds had been arrested.
He said a spa at the hotel was used a front for vice activities since 1999.
Seventeen Filipinas were picked up during the operation.
