KUALA LUMPUR: The government has cancelled the Kuala Lumpur-Klang Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) project as the service will overlap the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) 3 project, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Nancy Shukri said the government undertook a thorough study on the two projects before deciding on the cancellation.

“The LRT3 project covers the route from Bandar Utama to Johan Setia in Klang through Glenmarie, Shah Alam and Klang town,” she said when replying to a question from Ong Kian Ming (DAP-Serdang) during the ministers’ question time.

The government announced the cancellation of the KL-Klang BRT project early this month.

Nancy said the LRT3 project was given priority after several factors were taken into consideration, including the fact that the LRT3 would cover areas which did not have access to any city rail service.

On another matter, she said Rapid KL would launch a better monthly pass package in the first quarter of next year to help reduce the cost of living.
