KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Najib Razak resorted to using unusually forceful language today in refuting opposition claims that his administration was selling off the sovereignty of the country to foreigners.

Speaking while officiating at the MCA annual general assembly in Wisma MCA here, he apologised for his choice of words, saying he was angered by the “lies” that had been hurled.

He denied that the government was betraying the country by giving development projects to Chinese companies.

“It is stupid of them to make these allegations. ‘Kepala bapa kau’ (aggressive phrase literally meaning ‘your father’s head’)” he said.

“Where does the loss of sovereignty come from?” he added.

The Malay phrase “kepala bapa kau” is often used to rebut someone’s statement in a brash manner.

Najib said certain quarters had also made up lies about locals being forbidden to enter the Kuantan Industrial Park land sold to a Chinese company, and about the Forest City project units in Johor being sold to Chinese buyers.

“Stupid. How can Malaysians be stopped from entering land in their own country?” he said.

He added that Forest City was built on reclaimed land and that the properties were sold equally to local as well as Chinese purchasers.

In December last year, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad had alleged that 700,000 Chinese nationals would be brought into Malaysia and be made voters in Johor due to the project.

Najib had then retorted that Mahathir, who is PPBM chairman, had slandered the federal and state governments with the claim.

Former minister Zaid Ibrahim, who joined DAP in February, had also said that China was “aggressively taking over all the ports in the country and building massive infrastructure.”

“This is not a normal business investment plan. It looks to me to be something more,” he had said.
