Yuan’s family was met during the Social Security Organisation’s (Socso) visit to their home today to present funds for funeral expenses and other contributions to their family.
Yuan, 27, was a construction site supervisor who was buried when a landslide occurred bringing tonnes of earth down on a condominium construction site in Tanjung Bungah last Saturday. Ten others, all foreign nationals, also died in the tragedy.
A family member who refused to be named told reporters they hope the proposed State Commission of Inquiry (SCI) will show who is responsible for the incident that claimed Yuan’s life.
Yuan’s funeral will be held at the Batu Gantong cemetery at 11am tomorrow.
Earlier, Socso representative Shaharuddin Waled presented RM2,000 to Yeow Chooi Keng, 60, who is Yuan’s mother.
Shaharuddin said as per Socso’s benefits, Yuan’s parents will also receive another RM1,062.
The Penang government has announced the proposed setting-up of a SCI on the landslide.
The SCI will determine what caused the temporary worksite slope to collapse.
