Bersih: Are BN, Noh privy to final outcome of current seats redelineation?

PETALING JAYA: Bersih 2.0 today asked whether Barisan Nasional (BN) and Selangor BN chairman Noh Omar already know the final outcome of the current constituency redelineation exercise after launching the BN operations room for the P107 Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat on Oct 23.

Bersih 2.0 secretariat manager Mandeep Singh said the NGO was surprised by the launching of the ops room because P107 Sungai Buloh had yet to be created.

“The Election Commission (EC) had only proposed to create the constituency in the current redelineation exercise.

“The launching of the ops room shows the arrogance and disrespect of the BN and Tan Sri Noh Omar towards the redelineation since there is an ongoing court case concerning the process in Selangor,” he told a news conference at Bersih 2.0 headquarters here.

Last Tuesday, High Court judge Azizul Azmi Adnan fixed Dec 7 to announce his decision on an application by the Selangor government to declare the EC’s redelineation of constituencies in the state as unconstitutional and invalid.

The application was filed on Oct 19 last year, naming as respondents the EC, its chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah and its secretary Abdul Ghani Salleh.

Mandeep regretted the action by the BN and Noh, and urged voters to reject the redelineation outcome because it contained discrepancies and would give an unfair advantage to certain political parties.

“If not monitored, the unfair redelineation would lead to a general election system that was flawed and unjust,” he said.

Mandeep demanded that the EC call on the BN and Noh to close its ops room and publicly declare that they respect the redelineation process.

He also urged the EC to investigate whether similar operations rooms had been opened in other new parliamentary constituencies, and to order them shut down.
