Armed Forces chief General Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor said apart from Health Ministry medical officers and doctors, medical officers from non-governmental organisations (NGO) would also receive training.

“The ATM will provide a field hospital complete with various facilities to treat refugees and at the same time, we will also train Health Ministry and NGO doctors to use the facilities.

“ATM is prepared to mobilise field hospital assets to Rohingya refugee camps in Bangladesh and we have studied the locations to ensure they are suitable for field hospitals,” he said when contacted by Bernama here today.

In a visit yesterday to the Rohingya refugee camp in Kutupalong, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced Malaysia would be building a RM3.5 million field hospital at the refugee camp to house ethnic Rohingya patients.

He said the 50-bed hospital would be built by the ATM medical corps in a month, after which it would be manned by 35 personnel including doctors, hospital assistants and nurses.
