“The police asked for four days but the magistrate only allowed two to wrap up their probe,” said his lawyer Saiful Izham Ramli.
But Saiful said the investigation had nothing to do with the allegation that the PKR Youth exco member had insulted a sultan in a video uploaded to YouTube.
“We do not have details of the video or who lodged the police report,” Saiful said, adding that Wan Ji would not offer any statement to the police.
Saiful said he and his co-lawyer Zulhazmi Shariff would return to the Dang Wangi police headquarters tomorrow, adding that investigations should have been completed by then.
He said Wan Ji’s mobile phone was seized and police would take him to Sungai Buloh to search his house.
Yesterday, Inspector-General of Police Mohamad Fuzi Harun said Wan Ji was arrested following a report lodged against him.
Wan Ji, 35, was recently appointed as information officer for the Penang chief minister.
He was arrested after delivering a Friday sermon at Masjid Jalan Sembilang, Seberang Jaya, Penang yesterday.
His arrest came just days after Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) officer Zamihan Mat Zin, who was also arrested under the Sedition Act, posted a picture of Wan Ji on social media with the words “Wan Ji mahu sistem raja dihapuskan” (Wan Ji wants to abolish the monarchy).
A Bernama report said a police report against Wan Ji was lodged by a surau committee in Taman Pauh Jaya, accusing him of insulting the royal institution and the sultans through his talk.
Wan Ji was charged in court in 2014 over comments on Facebook criticising the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
