PETALING JAYA: Prominent lawyer Ambiga Sreenevasan today urged all Malaysians to end six decades of Barisan Nasional (BN) rule, saying she had no choice but to be biased against the ruling party “in favour of the people”.

Addressing participants at the “anti-kleptocracy” rally organised by Pakatan Harapan today, the former Bersih 2.0 chairman said she had no qualms about being labelled “biased” for siding with the opposition.

“People have said, Ambiga, how can you say that? You cannot take sides. I said I am biased, yes, I am biased in favour of our beloved country. I am biased in favour of our rakyat.

“That’s why I know BN must go,” she told the “Love Malaysia, End Kleptocracy” rally here tonight.

Ambiga said Malaysia could have earned the nickname “Switzerland of the East” if not for allegations of corruption plaguing the government.

“This is because they have been here 60 years. It is enough. Don’t give them 61 (years). Now it is the time for a change.”

The rally today focused on a United States anti-kleptocracy investigation into the alleged embezzlement of billions of dollars involving 1MDB, as well as the RM2.6 billion deposited into Prime Minister Najib Razak’s personal accounts.

Najib has denied allegations the money was from 1MDB-linked entities, and maintained it was a donation from the Saudi royal family to help the BN general election campaign of 2013.
