KUALA LUMPUR: The allegations of power abuse and misappropriation of funds involving former Mara chairman Annuar Musa is an old issue which need not be brought up again, says his successor Awang Adek Husin.

Awang Adek said he wanted to focus on Mara’s future development instead.

“The case (investigation of Annuar) is past, we should look to the future.

“The story has ended, no need to talk about it. Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob (Mara’s interim chairman) has already explained everything.

“As the new chairman, I must have new material, not old material,” he told a news conference held today to announce the Mara-OISCA International Business Forum (MOIBF) 2017.

Last February, a Mara internal audit committee headed by Abu Azam Md Yassin questioned Annuar regarding the allegations of corruption against him, including the sponsorship of the Kelantan football team.

Annuar was also investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission for alleged abuse of power and misappropriation.

The outcome of both investigations have not been disclosed.

Annuar, the Umno MP for Ketereh in Kelantan, was suspended as chairman of Mara and its subsidiary Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB) last Jan 31 to facilitate the investigations.

Annuar had denied using PMB and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), which is wholly owned by Mara, to sponsor the Kelantan football team.

He said the commercial sponsorship amounting to RM500,000 by UniKL and RM200,000 by PMB was decided by their respective administrations without referring to him.

Annuar was the president of the Kelantan Football Association from 2009 until his resignation on Nov 8 last year.
