Teng Chang Khim, who heads the state’s investment, industry and commerce, SME and transportation committee, said this was double the business volume conducted during the expo last year.
760 booths were booked this year at the Selangor International Expo 2017 and the Smart City and Future Commerce Convention, a spin-off exhibition held from Sept 7-9.
“We will enhance the Smart City Convention and transform Selangor International Expo into the leading platform for food and halal entrepreneurs in the region,” Teng said during the closing ceremony of the expo at the Setia City Convention Centre here today.
Recent Department of Statistics data has revealed that Selangor contributed 22.7% to Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP), putting it ahead of Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak, Johor, Penang and Sabah.
In 2015, Selangor contributed RM240 billion, or 22.6% of the national GDP, with an annual growth rate of 5.7%.
The Selangor International Business Summit also attracted almost 25,000 visitors, Teng said. The 10-day summit was held from Sept 7-17.
The summit attracted business delegates, speakers and exhibitors from the Asean region, Africa, China, Japan, the Middle East, Europe and North America.
Teng said the business summit was one of the many efforts to support globalisation and the economic development of Selangor.
“Due to the overwhelming response, the Selangor government will maintain the scale of this summit next year and may even grow it.”
The Selangor International Business Summit 2018 will be held from Sept 6-16.
The summit this year comprised three components.
The first was the Selangor Smart City and Future Commerce Convention 2017, held from Sept 7-9.
It was followed by the Selangor-Asean Business Conference from Sept 11-12, and the Selangor International Expo 2017 held from Sept 14-17.
