PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating a Facebook post involving the late Sultan of Kedah, Sultan Abdul Halim Mua’adzam Shah, who passed away yesterday at age 89.

The post was a comment on a picture of the late Sultan with Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor.

The picture, which has been removed, was uploaded on pro-opposition Facebook page “Tak Nak BN” yesterday evening.

It was accompanied by a caption which read “Perdana Menteri dan suaminya” (the prime minister and her husband).

Bukit Aman corporate communications chief SAC Asmawati Ahmad, when contacted, said the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

“We are in the process of tracking the owner of the Facebook account,” she said to FMT.

Section 233 covers the offence of improper use of network facilities or network service.

The section provides for a fine up to RM50,000 or a maximum one-year jail term or both, and a further RM1,000 fine for each day the offence was continued after conviction.
