PKR communications chief Fahmi Fadzil said it has only been a week into the investigations, so it is premature of Fuzi to make any conclusion if there was a link to 1MDB or not.
“After eight or nine days into the investigations, without any evidence or suspects caught, it will be difficult for anyone to accept his response on the possible 1MDB link,” Fahmi said at a press conference at the PKR headquarters here today.
He then urged the police to look into the issue seriously as it may have negative implications among the public on Malaysian institutions.
Meanwhile, Fahmi highlighted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had informed that the shooting incident may be a warning to discourage witnesses not to assist in its investigations.
“This may be an effort to silence witnesses to come forward for the US Department of Justice (DoJ) investigations on 1MDB,” he said, referring to a Bloomberg report yesterday.
He added that Fuzi’s quick dismissal of the issue just adds further suspicion on the matter.
According to Bloomberg, based on its federal court filing in Los Angeles, the FBI informed that several individuals in “certain foreign countries” were concerned about their safety if they cooperated on the probe into 1MDB.
The shooting incident occurred on Aug 29 at 9.20am, when the 40-year-old driver to former AG Abdul Gani Patail was standing at the front door of his house.
Two men, who were not wearing crash helmets, rode up to his house on a motorcycle.
One of them called out the victim’s name while the other shot him in the leg.
