Wan Azizah won the Kajang seat with a 5,379 majority in a 2014 by-election while Azmin, the menteri besar, retained his Bukit Antarabangsa state seat in GE13 with a margin of 4,044 votes.
Azmin also represents the Gombak parliamentary constituency which he won in 2008 and retained in GE13 with a majority of 4,734 votes.
In giving notice that they would contest the seats, PAS commissioner Sallehin Mukhyi said the party had been keen to contest in many seats in Selangor but had always given way to PKR.

Selayang MP William Leong said Selangor’s latest move justified his frustrations over PKR’s decision to continue negotiating with PAS.
“I think this shows what PAS has been thinking and preparing, and I guess you can say it vindicates me in a way,” he told FMT.
Leong recently tendered his resignation from the party’s political bureau after the PKR leadership said it would continue to try and work together with PAS to prevent three-cornered fights in GE14.
“The announcement by PAS underscores what I’ve said, and I hope that PKR’s leadership will review their latest decision.”
Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub agreed with Leong, saying the move by PAS made it clear that PH needed to face GE14 without the Islamist party.
“We in PH have taken the stance that our doors are always open to anyone who wants to see reform, but all this while, PAS has denied our good intentions,” he told FMT.

“We in Amanah don’t like to talk about PAS because it makes us look bad because we were from PAS, and so people may think we are holding on to personal resentments.
“But I’ve always said that time will tell, and now Selangor PAS has decided to stand against the very ones who have always tried to get closer to PAS. This all sounds very bad.”
