“I can confirm that Datuk Seri made the statement dated Aug 14 as I was there with him,” he told FMT in a brief reply to the Prison Department’s statement.
He was one of Anwar’s lawyers in his defamation lawsuit against Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin which Anwar attended on Monday at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
The Prison Department deputy director (policy) Supri Hashim had today said Anwar never issued the statement on Monday when he was escorted by prison warders for an appearance at the court.
“Anwar was guarded by officers and men of the department throughout his appearance at the courthouse,” Supri told Berita Harian.
When asked in what manner Anwar had drafted his statement, Sivarasa did not answer.
On Monday, Anwar said in a statement that the opposition had also encountered a similar situation like Nothing to Hide 2.0 during the last general election when a bus he used for campaigning was vandalised.
He urged the authorities to take stern action against the culprits involved in the ruckus on Sunday.
The Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum was stopped after forum participants were alleged to have thrown flares at former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who was at the time on the stage answering a question on the 1985 Memali incident in Baling, Kedah.
