State BN chairman Teng Chang Yeow gave this advice to the Penang government, reminding it that they had been in power for nearly a decade to rectify such problems.
He said the DAP-led state government could have acted competently by prioritising bread and butter issues.
His comments come after the Penang government said it would find an amicable solution to illegal outfits built and operating before 2008.
This follows a crackdown by federal agencies on an illegal carbon filter factory in Bukit Mertajam, which led to a senior Penang government official being arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
The factory was reported to have violated environmental regulations by burning sawdust in open fire pits.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng yesterday apologised to residents affected by the factory over its policy of giving leeway to pre-2008 illegal structures.
He said it would take action on all pre-2008 buildings only if BN supported this move.
Teng said if BN was the government of the day, it would have decided what was best for its people.
“They must decide what is best for the people and not what is best for themselves politically.
“The DAP government is shirking its responsibility by pushing it to the previous BN administration, which has no power now to decide.
“By asking BN to bear the responsibility, are they scared to shoulder responsibility if action is taken now?” he asked in a statement today.
Teng said the Penang government must make clear its policies about the legalisation of factories built before 2008.
He wondered why an amicable solution to legalise these illegal outfits had not been reached previously.
“Nine years have passed since the DAP-led state government came to power. But they are still working on a workable solution.
“The competency of the DAP government must be called into question.”
Teng quipped that the only policy that the Penang government took seriously was its policy of blaming the previous BN government for anything that went wrong.
“This must go into the Malaysia Book of Records as being the most consistent policy of the DAP state government thus far,” he said.
