PETALING JAYA: PKR members who took their oath of office for posts in the PAS-led Kelantan administration have not resigned and instead will continue with their duties as normal, says PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

His statement refutes reports that the PKR state appointees had resigned effective yesterday.

Tuan Ibrahim said PAS hoped the PKR members would stay in their posts to assist the people, and set aside their political interests.

“I welcome the statement by menteri besar Ahmad Yakob that the PKR members should prioritise public interests, so their decision not to resign is a positive action.

“I don’t want to interfere in PKR’s affairs. If there is a directive, maybe the members have to obey but, with just a few more months to the general election, we should not disrupt the state’s administration and upset the people,” Tuan Ibrahim told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

His statement was supported by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

Kelantan PKR information chief Mohammad Azihan Che Seman was reported yesterday as saying that, with the end of political cooperation between PAS and PKR, the party’s members appointed to posts in the Kelantan administration would resign.

After PAS cut off ties with PKR in May, PKR’s political bureau instructed all its appointees in the Kelantan administration to quit their posts.

Kelantan PKR leaders sought meetings with the central leadership in May and June to discuss the matter, eventually deciding that seven members would resign from their posts on July 31.

Azihan, when contacted by FMT, said there were some changes to the list of members who would resign and a new statement would be issued.

He said some members who received appointments but did not take their oath of office agreed not to accept the offers.

Meanwhile, Kelantan PKR chairman Ab Aziz Ab Kadir, when contacted, said PKR members who had been sworn in would continue to hold their posts in the state administration in the interest of the people.
