RoS wants change of logo, PH to comply

PH chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad says according to the RoS, the current logo is not suitable because it doesn't carry the coalition's full name.

PUTRAJAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will have to change its logo in order to have the coalition’s registration approved and formalised.

The opposition pact’s chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad said this was the gist of the discussion he had with the Registrar of Societies (RoS) here today.

“The RoS gave us a little advice about our logo. It’s not suitable because it doesn’t have (PH’s) full name.

“Basically, we have to use both the words ‘Pakatan’ and ‘Harapan’ in the logo.

“So we will comply with the request, and we will come up with a new logo,” the former prime minister told reporters after the meeting this morning.

He said although the RoS had not given a deadline for the submission of the new logo, PH aimed to have it done within a couple of days.

He added that this would not be too difficult as the pact already had an idea for its new logo.

He said the coalition would be seeking the help of professionals who are experts on such matters.

“We want to get this done as soon as possible, because it is important that we get the early approval, in light of the upcoming general election.

“We have to make the necessary preparations.

“If the logo is not approved, it will be difficult for us to start creating our own shirts and flags, among other things,” he said, adding that the RoS had expressed no other objections, not even towards PH’s constitution.

Mahathir, along with other PH leaders including president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and deputy presidents Muhyiddin Yassin and Mohamad Sabu, had met with the RoS to submit a hard copy of the coalition’s registration form.

PH revealed their  logo on July 14, following calls for members of the public to submit their proposals.

The logo features the word “Harapan” against a red backdrop, with the central “A” forming a triangular shape.

Meanwhile, Mohamad who is also Amanah president, said PH’s Oct 14 mega anti-kleptocracy rally would continue as planned. It will be held at Padang Timur in Petaling Jaya, from 4pm onwards.

When asked if PH had obtained a police permit for the rally, Mohamad said: “We are working on it.”

The rally was planned to mark the end of a nationwide campaign by the opposition coalition on the alleged embezzlement of state-owned 1MDB funds.

The campaign aimed to ensure the claims made in the United States Department of Justice’s (DoJ) civil lawsuits related to 1MDB were made known to the people.
