RTD deputy DG fined for driving on emergency lane

Deputy director-general of planning and operations Yusoff Ayob was fined RM600 after he pleaded guilty to a charge of driving on the emergency lane at Lingkaran Putrajaya on Oct 7 last year.

PUTRAJAYA: Road Transport Department (RTD) deputy director-general of planning and operations, Yusoff Ayob, was today fined RM600, in default seven days jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today for driving on the emergency lane at Lingkaran Putrajaya.

Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Ab Rahman meted out the fine on Yusoff, 58, after a special officer who appeared on his behalf, pleaded guilty to the charge.

He paid the fine.

Yusoff, who was at the wheel of a vehicle with registration number BLY68, was charged with driving on the emergency lane, which is an offence under Rule 53(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959, at 6.27pm on Oct 7 last year.

The offence is punishable under Section 119(1)© of the Road Transport Act 1987, which provides a fine of up to RM2,000, or imprisonment for up to six months, or both, if found guilty.

RTD prosecuting officer Mohd Hafizuddin Mohd Lutfi prosecuted.
