When asked to comment on DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang’s remark that the Umno ministers’ comments were as though they were under a hysteria attack, Khairy said this was not true.
“No one is in hysteria. I am not hysterical. The reason why there are so many statements from my party is because the press are asking.
“It is not like we are excited to give statements. It is because you all are asking, so we respond.
“We are focused on delivering for the rakyat,” he said in a press conference after attending the Petronas Young Entrepreneurs TN50 dialogue today.
Khairy, who is also youth and sports minister, then turned the tables on Lim and asked if he and his opposition colleagues “are in hysteria every day”, seeing that they issue political statements on a daily basis, sometimes more than once a day.
Lim had reportedly said the latest statements by the prime minister, deputy prime minister and other Umno ministers following the announcement of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council last Thursday, makes it obvious that the ruling party is panicking.
Likening their comments to Umno being under a “hysteria attack”, Lim had said it was obvious that the new PH structure, logo and leadership line-up has had such an impact on the ruling Umno/Barisan Nasional government.
Over the past few days, apart from Khairy, Prime Minister Najib Razak, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak, Ismail Sabri Yaakob (Rural and Regional Development), Anifah Aman (Foreign Affairs), and Mohamed Nazri Aziz (Tourism and Culture) have also either released statements or responded to questions on the PH line-up.
Khairy had reportedly claimed that DAP, as “the party which holds the most parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat will decide on Pakatan Harapan’s policies and manifestos”, according to Lim.
