Zahid was quoted by The Star yesterday, as saying that he had discussed the matter of the validity of the party’s central executive committee (CEC) with the RoS director-general and had not received a final decision on DAP’s appeal.
“If indeed there is no conspiracy to deregister DAP, why does RoS need to meet Zahid to discuss the fate of DAP?
“Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s press secretary Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad had last Saturday said the DAP should focus on its ‘serious predicament’ with regard to using its logo in the next general election (GE14),” said Teo, who is DAP assistant national publicity secretary.
“His (Tengku Sariffuddin) statement proves that there is a malicious political agenda to deregister DAP.”
Despite Zahid’s denial that there was an attempt to dissolve DAP, Teo questioned the need for the RoS director-general to prepare a written report for Zahid.
“Why can’t RoS make a decision based on DAP’s party constitution and the laws of Malaysia?
“Did RoS report to Zahid over matters involving other societies registered in Malaysia? Why the ‘special treatment’ for DAP?” Teo said.
The Kulai MP reiterated that RoS, through their lawyers, had conceded in court in 2014, that it recognises the DAP CEC elected on Sept 29, 2013, and that the CEC may carry out all its powers, functions and duties in the administration of the daily affairs of the DAP in accordance with the Constitution of the DAP.
“So why is the validity of the DAP CEC still an issue?
“If we are still unsure whether DAP will be allowed to use our rocket logo in GE14, it is solely because Umno has not given up the idea. And we all know Umno will not hesitate to abuse their power to achieve this evil idea,” Teo said.
She added that if RoS will act professionally on the matter, it shouldn’t be taking four years to still make a final decision on the appeal by DAP.
“It is obvious that the decision is not for the DG of RoS to make. It is up to his political masters to decide.
“However, we DAP will not be cowed by anybody.”
