The Hutan Melintang assemblyman said he will still pursue efforts to secure a meeting with EC chairman Mohd Hashim Abdullah after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri holidays.
“I was rushed to the hospital yesterday about 12 hours after beginning the strike in front of the EC office in Putrajaya,” he said today.
“I was given treatment, and based on the doctor’s advice I agreed not to go on hunger strike again in view of the fact that I am suffering from other illnesses,” he told a press conference at the PKR headquarters here today.
Upon his release from the hospital, Kesavan was brought for questioning to the Putrajaya police headquarters, as an EC officer had lodged a report against him there for allegedly disturbing the peace.
He then lodged a counter-report to explain what had taken place before, during and after the incident.
Kesavan had planned to go without food for 48 hours, beginning at 11am, to protest the EC’s failure to address several complaints, including those on the registration of allegedly fraudulent voters in his constituency in Perak.
He had previously raised objections against the registration of over 2,000 new voters whom he believed were not Hutang Melintang residents.
He and several other people have lodged about 30 police reports on the matter, but none has been taken seriously, he claimed.
He added that even though he was forced to stop the protest, it did not mean that he was giving up on the electoral issue.
His supporters had to call an ambulance as they became worried about his deteriorating health during the incident.
This is Kesavan’s second hunger strike on the same issue, following a demonstration he held outside the Perak EC office in Ipoh on June 9.
