PETALING JAYA: A PKR assemblyman had to be rushed to a hospital, barely 10 hours after he went on a hunger strike outside the Election Commission’s (EC) headquarters in Putrajaya, last night.

S Kesavan, the elected representative for Hutan Melintang, planned to go on a 48-hour hunger strike – which began at 11am yesterday – to protest the EC’s failure to address several concerns including the registration of fraudulent voters in his constituency in Perak.

But 12 hours later, Kesavan’s supporters called for an ambulance as they were concerned about his deteriorating health.

This is Kesavan’s second hunger strike on the same issue, with the previous one held on June 9 outside the Perak EC office.

Meanwhile, PKR’s communication director Fahmi Fadzil said Kesavan’s supporters called for an ambulance at 9pm.

“He is understood to be in stable condition and is recovering,” he said in a statement.

Fahmi also urged the EC to address the concerns Kesavan had raised, including the latter’s objections against the registration of over 2,000 new voters he believed were not Hutang Melintang residents.
