PETALING JAYA: A manhunt is under way for a suspected robber and rapist who escaped from police custody yesterday afternoon, the New Straits Times reported.

The Indonesian man, 27, was detained by police recently over a rape incident involving a housewife in Kampung Rantau Panjang, in Klang, two weeks ago.

According to North Klang district police chief ACP Yusoff Mamat, the suspect asked to go to the toilet and while in there, had managed to pry open the window bars to make his escape.

“Police investigation revealed that he tied the pair of pants he was wearing on the steel bars and twisted it to make enough room to slip out through the toilet window at the Criminal Investigation Department office.

“A manhunt has been launched to track down the suspect,” he told the daily.

The suspect is also believed to have allegedly molested a woman during a burglary in Meru last month.

ACP Yusoff also urged the public to immediately contact the police should they spot the suspect or if they have any information of his whereabouts.

According to NST, the suspect had on June 7 allegedly raped a 34-year-old housewife when he and two accomplices broke into the woman’s house at about 4am.

The incident happened in the woman’s bedroom, while her husband and the couple’s 4-year-old son were asleep in the living room.

The three men were then caught by police at the Shapadu Toll Plaza on June 13.
