PETALING JAYA:
The fugitive rapist who had escaped from the North Klang district police headquarters (IPD) has been recaptured, the New Straits Times reported.

The 27-year-old Indonesian was nabbed at Section 26, Kampung Baru Hicom Shah Alam, which is about 20km from where he had escaped, at 7am today, about 17 hours after his escape.

The police had launched a manhunt for the suspected robber and rapist after he had escaped yesterday afternoon.

He had been detained recently over a rape incident involving a housewife in Kampung Rantau Panjang, in Klang, two weeks ago.

According to North Klang IPD chief ACP Yusoff Mamat, the suspect had planned his escape, and hired a man to send him to Kampung Baru Hicom Shah Alam, where he lives.

“The man was arrested by a team of investigators who went to the village at 1am after receiving intelligence reports he had returned there,” Yusoff told the daily.

“The suspect had changed into a new set of clothes and cut off one side of the handcuffs he was wearing, which was hanging from his wrist when he was rearrested. He had broken the handcuffs with the help of the man he had hired for RM60 to send him to the village. We are in the midst of tracking the other man down.

“During his short-lived freedom, the suspect had also brazenly robbed a woman and attempted to rape her. We are now investigating this too. The suspect was due to be charged in court. We are expected to bring him to court soon,” Yusoff was quoted as saying.

Yesterday, Yusoff was reported to have said that the suspect had asked to go to the toilet and while in there, had managed to pry open the window bars to make his escape.

Police investigation revealed that he tied the pair of pants he was wearing on the steel bars and twisted it to make enough room to slip out through the toilet window at the Criminal Investigation Department office.

The suspect is also believed to have allegedly molested a woman during a burglary in Meru last month.

According to NST, the suspect had on June 7 allegedly raped a 34-year-old housewife when he and two accomplices broke into the woman’s house at about 4am.

The incident happened in the woman’s bedroom, while her husband and the couple’s 4-year-old son were asleep in the living room.

The three men were then caught by police at the Shapadu Toll Plaza on June 13.
