PPBM: We are watching ‘Umno infiltrators’

These small groups of ‘agent provocateurs’ and mercenaries are trying to create a rift between the top two party leaders, it claims.

PETALING JAYA:
PPBM leaders are not in the dark over the existence of “infiltrators” and “agent provocateurs” who they believe have been placed inside the party to cause problems.

Its supreme council member, Rais Hussin, said these infiltrators are being watched closely and the sooner they leave, the better it will be for the party.

“To them, my advice will be: leave and join the struggle and party of your choice.

“There are many ways of earning money and it’s certainly not by being political mercenaries.

“Some of these infiltrators are staying put in the party as they are only relevant and important so long as they are in the party with their positions.

“It’s the only way to harvest money from their paymasters,” he told FMT.

His statement came following the recent resignation of more than 1,000 Perak PPBM members en masse, claiming dissatisfaction over party president Muhyiddin Yassin’s leadership ability.

Rais, who is also PPBM’s policy and strategy bureau chairman, said while it is every member’s democratic right to leave the party, they should do it in a respectable way.

“To organise weekly press conferences, repeating the same unfounded allegations against senior leaders of PPBM, tearing up forms or burning T-shirts are all very old politics of deceit and sinister intentions.

“This smells very much of how the usual old politics were orchestrated by Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN).

“Are we surprised? Definitely no. Are we going to see more of this? Definitely yes.”

Rais also claimed that Muhyiddin had become the target of this “small number of disgruntled groups” because party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad is standing firm behind him.

But they are just trouble makers, and their departure is “good riddance” for the party, added Rais.

“I am sure there will be a few more, especially those who ‘throw stones and hide their hands’, like in Perak.”

Another PPBM supreme council member, Tariq Ismail, urged party members to remember why they had joined the cause in the first place.

He also said the majority of the party members were there to save the nation and this was what they should remind themselves of.

“Are we here for ourselves or for the people of Malaysia? Finally, the Malay hinterland has a voice in the opposition, via PPBM.

“So, it’s about coming together again and helping each other in the struggle to emancipate Malaysia.

“Whatever disagreements there are, they should voice it out face to face with the leaders and not in the open.”

Tariq added that the party leaders, while they have their own strengths, are also human and thus are unable to attend to all matters themselves.

But this is where the party members have to play their role and look at themselves first before blaming others, he said.

“I know some of them feel that they have been disrespected, and I have heard both sides.

“Politics is about reaching a compromise. To me, the disgruntled side does not want to compromise and it has come to this.”
