PETALING JAYA: Sam Ke Ting, the saleswoman involved in an accident at Jalan Lingkaran Dalam in Johor Bahru where eight “Mat Lajak” cyclists were killed in February, has turned to crowd-funding to foot her legal fees.

In a posting on her Facebook page, the 22-year-old asked for the public’s help to collect money for her court case, reported The Star today.

Sam said she needed about RM60,000 to foot her legal fees, saying that appealing to the public for help was her last resort.

“My family has exhausted all their savings to help me foot the costs,” she said in her Facebook entry posted today.

Sam appealed to the public for donations and gave account numbers at two banks.

On Feb 18, Sam allegedly ploughed into a group of 30 to 40 cyclists, killing eight and injuring eight others.

The cyclists, aged 13 to 17, were believed to have been blocking some roads in the area.

The incident happened at 3am in Jalan Lingkaran Dalam.

Sam claimed trial to a charge of dangerous and reckless driving. She was charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and was released on bail.
