Its president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, said the party’s political bureau had this evening heard Azmin’s explanation that they had given their assurance of their continued support for the state’s polices, as outlined in the “Buku Jingga” administration master plan of the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat.
She said Azmin, who is PKR deputy president, had explained that they had also expressed confidence in his leadership over the state.
She said the bureau took note of these points despite the fact that the 13 members from PAS are not in the new opposition coalition of Pakatan Harapan, which comprises PKR, Amanah, DAP and PPBM.
“The PKR political bureau accordingly agreed with the approach of the Selangor menteri besar to ensure the stability of the state government before the 14th general election (GE14) and continue efforts to develop Selangor in line with the huge mandate from the people in GE13,” she said in a statement today.
She said the bureau had faith in Azmin’s leadership to continue helming the state to implement its developmental goals for the prosperity and well-being of the people.
On May 11, PAS’ Syura Council endorsed the decision of the party’s muktamar (general assembly) on April 30 to end its “tahaluf siyasi” (political cooperation) with PKR.
This led to calls for the resignation of PAS assemblymen in the state executive council.
The three councillors are Iskandar Abdul Samad (who holds the housing, building management and urban settlement portfolio), Zaidy Abdul Talib (state infrastructure, public amenities and agro-based industry) and Yunus Hairi (Islamic Affairs).
On May 15, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the executive councillors would not budge from their posts unless they were directed to do so by the sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
He said they would ignore any such order from Azmin as they were appointed by and running their duties with the consent of the sultan.
In contrast to PAS’ stance not to have them step down, PKR had ordered all its political appointees in the PAS-led Kelantan government to resign immediately.
PAS also has numerous members as councillors in Selangor’s municipal and city councils, and Mohd Shafie Ngah as deputy speaker of the state assembly.
