He was commenting on Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s statement that there would be no change in the state leadership line-up since voters in the last general election had chosen PAS as well as DAP and PKR to jointly form the state government.
Azmin, who is the PKR deputy president, said this in response to a call by Amanah Youth for a reshuffle after PAS voted at its general assembly on April 30 to cut its political cooperation with PKR.
Rafizi said this was good news for Pakatan Harapan because the longer PAS stayed in the state government, the more its true colours would show.
“Fence-sitters take time to measure up political parties. Each day PAS remains in position in Selangor is good as it will show that PAS is all about positions and rewards and not about struggles and the aspirations of the people.”
He was speaking after the launching of his book, “A Guide to Rebuilding Our Nation (Vol 1)”, at Empire Hotel Subang today.
He said, however, that his reasons for wanting PAS to remain in the state government may be different from Azmin’s.
“As to why and how the menteri besar arrived at his decision, that is his prerogative.
“Perhaps he has a different responsibility to keep the state government together.
“I have a different responsibility and am interested mostly in making sure we replace Najib Razak (the prime minister) in the next general election.”
The PAS muktamar made an unanimous decision on April 30 to break the “tahaluf siyasi” (political cooperation) with PKR.
The decision was endorsed by the Syura Council, the party’s highest decision-making body on Thursday.
On April 28, PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution called on PAS to vacate the Selangor administration if the party decided to cut ties with PKR.
PAS has three state executive councillors — Iskandar Abdul Samad, Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Zaidy Abdul Talib — and numerous city and municipal councillors at the local government level.
Selangor deputy speaker Shafie Ngah is also a PAS member.
