PETALING JAYA: PAS’ Iskandar Abdul Samad has confirmed that Selangor menteri besar Azmin Ali never directed him to step down from his post as state executive councillor following the party’s recent move to sever its political cooperation with PKR.

“No, there was no such order at all,” the former state PAS commissioner was quoted as saying by Malaysiakini today.

Iskandar, who is the Cempaka state assemblyman, characterised a meeting held yesterday between him, Azmin and three other state PAS leaders as “very good”.

Asked if a report in The Star Online today that Azmin had called on all three PAS members in the Selangor executive council to step down was true, Iskandar was quoted as replying: “I don’t know. But I have not received anything.”

The portal had earlier today said Azmin had asked Iskandar and his two PAS colleagues Ahmad Yunus Hairy and Zaidy Abdul Talib, who are also in the executive council, to vacate their posts.

It said Azmin made the “surprise” request during an hour-long meeting also attended by PAS’ new state commissioner Sallehen Mukhyi yesterday.

PAS’ Syura Council had on Thursday endorsed the decision of the party’s muktamar (general assembly) on April 30 to end its “tahaluf siyasi” (political cooperation) with PKR.

The report said Azmin had given an assurance that PAS could still remain as part of the state government in line with the mandate given by voters in the last general election in May 2013.

The PKR deputy president also gave his word that the party’s municipal and city council members, and those in the village security and development committees (JKKK), would have their status maintained, it said.

Earlier, Azmin’s political secretary Mat Suhaimi Shafie said the report was inaccurate and a “spin”.

He said Azmin made a clear stand that the current executive council line-up will be kept until the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) which is due by the middle of next year.

He added that Azmin had also clarified the matter with the PKR leadership.
