PETALING JAYA: The Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) will conduct an independent investigation into four missing Malaysian activists.

They are Pastor Raymond Koh, Pastor Joshua Hilmy and his wife Ruth, and a social activist Amri Che Mat.

Suhakam’s chairman Razali Ismail said Suhakam received a memorandum from human rights organisation, Suaram, and various NGOs on behalf of the families of the missing persons.

“Suhakam has been asked to assist the families concerned to investigate and determine the whereabouts of these missing persons.

“It will also serve as a channel of communication between the families, the police and government,” he said in a press release posted on Suhakam’s website today.

He said the commission appealed to the authorities to use all means at their disposal to explain the fate of the missing persons and to ensure that the rights of family members are upheld at all times.

“The family members should have access to information regarding the ongoing investigation,” he said.

He said the commission also hoped the authorities will take all necessary steps to alleviate concerns among the public.
