GEORGE TOWN:
A motorist escaped from the clutches of the police despite being fired at several times for speeding off after being stopped for inspection at Paya Terubung near here today.

Undeterred by the gunshots, the 46-year-old man who has 10 criminal records, abandoned the vehicle and gave police the slip in the Bandar Baru Farlim area near here.

Earlier, the police chased the motorist until Jalan Lengkok Tun Muhd Salleh after he had rammed into a motorcyclist beside the Paya Terubung Petronas station.

Timur Laut District Police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the speeding motorist subsequently hit the side mirror of a parked car at Tingkat Paya Terubong heading to Majestic Heights near here before colliding head-on with a car upon arriving at the Jalan Paya Terubung traffic junction.

“We even used a loudspeaker to direct the man to stop his car as he was endangering the lives of other road users but our pleas fell on deaf ears.

“We were thus, forced to fire seven times in the direction of the getaway car,” he added.
