Look after your internal problems first, Rahman Dahlan told

Selangor state assembly speaker Hannah Yeoh tells Rahman to forget about DAP problems and address why many Umno members are joining PPBM.

PETALING JAYA: Rather than placing focus on DAP’s internal problems, perhaps Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan should take a good hard look at unity within Umno, says DAP’s Hannah Yeoh.

“I don’t even know where he plucks his statements from.

“I would suggest that he focus all his energy on looking after Umno, which is very divided now,” she told reporters when met during the Millennium Proto-Park launch day at SS13 today.

Yeoh was responding to earlier remarks by Rahman, who is Umno strategic communications director, that there were internal problems within DAP that had led party members to begin rejecting Lim.

Rahman had called for Lim’s retirement, stating that DAP members were sick of being under his leadership for 51 years.

He claimed DAP members at the grassroots level wanted a shift of power to a leader who was more progressive and moderate compared with the “extreme views” Lim had.

Yeoh reminded Rahman that only DAP members knew best about their internal problems and labelled the latter’s remarks as utter nonsense.

“Only DAP members would know the party best and it is not for Umno leaders to comment.

“And I also think Rahman’s statement is pure nonsense.”

Yeoh also said the resignation of Malacca DAP elected leaders was an isolated incident, pointing out that Umno too had similar problems.

“If you want to judge by the Malacca incident, then what about Umno? Many of its members are leaving Umno and joining Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) now.

“I don’t think it’s even an issue at all. Clearly, Rahman’s comments are to distract from what’s happening within Umno.”

Last month, Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him, Bachang assemblyman Lim Jak Wong, Kesidang assemblyman Chin Choon Seong and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San had announced their resignation from DAP, all citing a loss of confidence in the party’s leadership under its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

Following the resignation of the four, 182 DAP members led by former Malacca DAP state chairman Liou Chen Kuang proceeded to quit the party.

Yeoh reminded that such an incident was natural for any party, as every member had the freedom to join or quit the party.

“It’s natural for political parties. People have freedom of association where they can join or leave.

“And I think you will see that happening whenever it’s close to elections. “
