Man drowns trying to retrieve bag from golf club pond

He got stuck in the mud when trying to reach bag after a buggy driven by a golfer slipped into the pond.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A mechanic at the Rahman Putra Golf Club in Sungai Buloh drowned in a pond at the golf course while trying to retrieve a golf bag and shoe bag that belonged to a golfer.

Sungai Buloh police chief Supt Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof said during the 9.30am incident, Rizzuan Nazri, 38, was trying to retrieve a shoe bag that was floating in the pond after a buggy driven by a golfer had slipped into the pond.

“The victim had successfully retrieved the golf bag from the pond but when he was trying to fish out the shoe bag, he slipped into the pond and was trapped in the mud,” he said here today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director Mohd Sani Harul said the department had received a call at 10.30am and his men were able to retrieve the body from the pond an hour later.

Wan Kamarul said the body of the victim was later sent to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for a post-mortem.
