GEORGE TOWN: Police have ruled out foul play in the discovery of the bodies of a mother and son found floating in the waters off Teluk Bahang last night.

Southwest district police chief Supt Anuar Omar said they were identified as Tan Li Gin, 21, and Eonithin Amarish, 3.

“A post-mortem revealed that the victims died of drowning.

“Following statements by the medical officers interviewed, we are of the opinion that there is no criminal element in this case,” Anuar said today.

Yesterday, a woman alerted police after finding the two bodies washed up ashore on some rocks near Tropical Spice Garden about 6pm.

They were found bound together with raffia string and paramedics estimate they had been dead for 24 hours.

Tan’s husband, Amarish Kumuarasen, 21, from Taman Pantai Intan, Bagan Ajam, Butterworth, claimed the two bodies from the Penang Hospital this morning.

Anuar told Bernama that the post-mortem report revealed that the woman was 11-weeks pregnant.

The woman’s brother-in-law, who wanted to be known only as Eswaran, 24, said although Tan had a fight with his brother a few days earlier, she appeared to be unaffected.

“They were a happy couple and had been in love since they were in Form Three,” he said when met by Bernama at the family home in Butterworth today.
