SHAH ALAM:
The youth wings of Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) today lodged a police report against Jamal Yunos for mocking Islam by bringing hearses to a protest.

At the Shah Alam police station, Selangor PKR Youth chief Afzainizam Rahman urged Jamal to apologise to the Sultan of Selangor, who yesterday expressed his displeasure over the misuse of the vehicles. He said that Jamal should also apologise to the people of the state.

“His actions tarnished the image of Islam and threatened the harmony in Selangor,” he told reporters, alluding to the Feb 14 protest staged by Jamal at the Selangor secretariat building, where he used 16 hearses and coffins to make his point.

Also present were Selangor Amanah Youth chief Abbas Salimmi Azmi, his PPBM counterpart Adhif Syan Abdullah and Selangor DAP Youth committee member Mugheelan Mugi.

Jamal dismissed the police report as a “cheap stunt”.

The colourful politician said PPBM and PH Youth were behind in their response as the protest was held more than a week ago.

The Umno Sungai Besar division chief said a police report should have been lodged the day after the protest, adding that the men in blue had already called him for his statement after the Selangor Islamic Religious Department lodged a report.

“What these youths are doing is distracting people from the issue of the misappropriation of funds. I urge them to advise their boss, Azmin Ali to address the issue we raised instead of politicising it,” he told FMT.

During the Feb 14 protest, Jamal demanded that the Selangor menteri besar explain the alleged misappropriation of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor funds.

In an immediate response, Abbas rubbished Jamal’s claim that the opposition was trying to cover up the issue.

“It looks like Umno is running out of ammunition to use against the Selangor government. Why didn’t he just meet up with Azmin; why did he need to bring hearses?”
