KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will investigate news reports that the tender exercise for the supply of gymnastics equipment for the 2017 SEA Games had elements of corruption and abuse of power.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said the anti-graft agency was currently gathering information about the claims.

“The MACC will investigate and study the details of the claims before taking any action,” he told Bernama.

Yesterday, Bernama reported that according to a reliable source, an internal investigation found that the elements of corruption and abuse of power existed in the application for the tender.

Malaysia will be hosting the 2017 SEA Games from Aug 19 to 31, in conjunction with the 60th Independence Day of the country.
